Cue sheets for local bike routes
We've talked to Benny and to Adam, at the bike store about bike routes for 70-100 mi rides around Milledgeville. Adam has put one map together for us so far, which we appreciate. They suggested using "Map My Ride", however, there are no cue sheets to go with the maps. We are a group of 8 coming down March 27 from Iowa for a 500 mi bicycle week. We'd prefer NOT to be lost in Georgia. Does anyone know how we can obtain any cue sheets for the area?
Thanks, Arnie |

Arnie,
There is a "view notes" link in the "info and tools" box on a Map My Ride route that will show the turn by turn directions. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...26624317765574 There will soon be cue sheets for all the April Fools routes that I can send to you. There are also the 2004 BRAG Spring Tune Up route sheets that I will attach.

Cue sheet starting points/ Map My Ride question
Hi Benny,
Thanks much for the PDF files (cue sheets) you sent. They look very detailed. Not being from the area, I was wondering which towns the starting points are in..do they all begin in Milledgeville? The 100 miler is labeled at Toomsboro-Irwinton. Begins "in front of Swampland Opry" (Is the Opry in Milledgeville?) The Toomsboro Ride begins at "Cordell Events Center". Is that also in Milledgeville? We were going to use Mapquest to be sure we can find the starting points from our rental lakehouse. Also...we found some rides on Map My Ride, but since we only have need of that membership for this trip, we were wondering if we need to buy a whole year's membership just for these maps. There is no telephone number included, or do you know if it's possible to just pay for 1 month's subscription. Thanks again. |

The very detailed cue sheets are from a 3-day ride put on by Bicycle Ride Across Georgia a few years ago. They all start in Milledgeville from the same place that this year's April Fools Ride will start. Coming into town from Jewel Ingram, you will turn left on Elbert Street at the light at the top of the hill from the Oconee River bridge. CEC is two blocks on the left. The BRAG Saturday and Sunday routes, as well as the route Adam sent you, will head back out across the river, so you won't need to come all the way in to the start.
The 100 mile BRAG ride is an option added to the main Saturday route, picking up from a rest stop at Swampland Opry in Toomsboro. You'll need to combine it with the main route to get 100 miles. I have never printed a route from Map My Ride. I only have a free membership. I am pretty sure that you can print routes for $2 each. You may need to sign up for a free membership.

I think Benny means turn left on Elbert St. coming from across the river to get to the Cordell Event Center at GMC.

Thank you for the info. In the heat of the panic, I got caught up in the 40% off sale...found later that buying maps for 2$ apiece was more in my pricerange. If anyone wants to ride with us on any day beginning Sat. March 27, Adam has my number.
Thanks, Arnie |

Hope you folks had good rides while you were here. I saw a few of you heading toward town on 112 as I was heading out on the ride Tuesday from the pavilion. It was just after you climbed the last steep hill just past the Veteran's Cemetery. I guess you were coming back from the century ride out by Oconee.

Yes, you saw 3 of us. Yes, they were finishing the century route. Thanks for sending the routes our way. They really helped us have some productive rides - didn't know you guys had so many long hills out there. Iowa has steeper hills, but only 1/4 to 1/2 as long as your r-o-l-l-i-n-g hills. Thanks also for all the trees Georgia has available to block the winds. It could have gotten really ugly at times. Some of us got a 500 mi bike week in. Others of us had 400, and some of us got sick, so did less. Great time. Traffic was more than anticipated, but much more curteous than drivers in Iowa, ie. 1-finger waves, getting run off the road or an ocassional bottle thrown. We even had a Georgia State Trooper stop us and ask what we were doing on our bikes on the roads. He warned us that drivers weren't used to seeing cyclists and didn't always quite know what to do - pass, follow slowly or run us over. He was very friendly and wished us well. Special thanks to Adam for the work he did and helping us out on some chain problems. We will wear our 2008 Asylum City Psychlist's shirts with pride. If you're in Iowa - give us a holler and we'll help all we can.

Glad your group could enjoy some of the nicer weather we've had in awhile. Wish I could've gotten out for a ride with you. I'll definitely hit you up if I'm coming through Iowa.
